Grief is an emotionally painful response to a loss. Although it’s a normal and natural response, it can still be difficult to process. Grief can feel like a heart wrenching pain that can be felt on an emotional and physical level. Grief can feel like sadness, depression, guilt, confusion, anger, shock, numbness or a mix of emotions. Grief can also feel like a lingering headache, fatigue, nausea, change in appetite, difficulty sleeping, upset stomach, or tightness/pain in your body. Often times grief is associated with death and dying, however grief can also be associated with any loss. Some forms of loss can include losing a loved one, a chapter of life, stability of health or a significant change of some sort. Experiencing a loss is already difficult enough, but you don’t have to do it on your own.
Grief and Loss
Experiencing a loss can be heart wrenching, confusing and upsetting. It might feel like your world has stopped and you’re unsure of how to navigate grief and all its emotions. Grief is not simple or straightforward. It can be so messy and different for everyone. There is no right or wrong way to grieve. Often times we think of death and dying when we think of grief, but grief and loss can be felt in many ways. It can be experienced when you enter a new chapter of life, experience a significant change or lose an aspect of your life that you used to have. If you’re experiencing grief and loss, counselling can give you a space to talk about it and find a balance within it. Email me to get started.
What is Grief and Loss?
Benefits of Virtual Grief Counselling
After experiencing a loss, sometimes we don’t have the capacity or energy to do all the things we would normally do. Online counselling gives you the convenience of staying in a comfortable and familiar space, while receiving support virtually.
How Our Grief Therapy Works
Every therapeutic relationship starts with a free consult, where you are given the opportunity to share the reason you are seeking counselling support. If you feel like I am a good fit for you based on the consult, we can begin scheduling counselling sessions. In the sessions, you are given the space to talk about your loss, your memories and your emotions. Together, we work through grief and all its emotions in an effort to help you process your loss and find some balance within it all.
When to consider grief counselling?
Grief is not a simple or straight-forward path. Author Vicki Harrison says “Grief is like the ocean; it comes in waves, ebbing and flowing. Sometimes the water is calm, and sometimes it is overwhelming. All we can do is learn to swim”. You’ll have days where you feel like you can carry the grief well, and you’ll have days where you where you won’t know where to begin. Counselling allows you to find time in the day to talk about your emotions instead of bottling them up. It also allows you to understand the depth of grief in relation to your loss. Grief and all its emotions are not meant to be managed alone. Let counselling be your opportunity to make time for you, your emotions and your loss.
